FaceTime

FaceTime is an Apple product that allows users to video chat with one another with many other advantages to better connect with friends and relatives. I wouldn’t exactly call myself a ‘FaceTimer’. I’m more into in-person engagements, however, I do tend to still use the app mainly by force rather than by choice as my half-siblings are always attempting to video call me instead of calling or texting, and often at the worst times when I’m at my busiest. Despite that, I would normally use this program to stay in touch with my teenage sister who's the only girl in her household - just like myself, so the face-to-face, long-distance interaction on the app really helps us to better communicate as if we were right next to each other.

YouTube

YouTube is a well-known media platform that has been created to display your favorite music and videos from content creators from all around the world with the addition to share and post your own videos if you may wish to do so. Personally, I tend to use the app to binge watch either when I am at home and on the go, or simply just waking up in the mornings. Considering the time of day, I would use it to listen to music through my AirPods during the daytime. I would also use it daily to watch channels from YouTubers of my choosing, or showings of televised programs to play in the background until I’m fast asleep. A recent series that I’ve discovered is called ‘Crafts&Cocktail’ from ThatChickAngelTV where she’s hosting somewhat of a series where she has special guests come up and express themselves creatively through cocktails and special art crafts. I really enjoy watching this because it’s like the raw, uncut version of a televised talk-show where nothing is censored and it’s all real. The image above presents one of my well-liked episodes from the series.

Messenger

I like to think of Messenger as the sister that's the correspondent of Facebook, and since I no longer have an active Facebook account I now use Messenger in its place. This app allows you to communicate with individuals through messages and video chats. Messenger is one of my on-and-off again applications that I sometimes use solely when I have the free time. I would scroll through new and old messages and check the profiles of other people whether to know more about the individual or to check their latest feed.

Notes

Notes was originally produced by Apple to make note-taking a lot easier and well-efficient by equipping the product with other essentials to bring your ideas to life such as sketch, checklists, and amongst others. This application is like a note-taking dreamland for me. It’s like my programmed ‘media’ mind that holds all of my thoughts and feelings. There are times when I would sleep and immediately wake up from a dream that sticks to me as visual inspiration that can be used for a possible scene in a upcoming story, and I would jot it down in my notes while it’s still fresh on my mind to avoid forgetting. Notes is also where I do most of my rough drafting. I’ll type everything down freely and once that thought it completed I would then send it on to Google Docs to be finalized. My notes are completely filled with past dreams, mental visions, and old projects from lost thoughts that have yet to be completed, including a few side notes for class assignments or something for personal remembrance.

Google Docs

Google Docs is one of my most favorite and well-used online apps that I have experienced by far. I could write a paper on Word and upload it to Docs and it will pick up imperfections that Word might have missed or overlooked. The purpose of Google Docs varies in ways to where you have the option to design and share your online papers or documents, and so much more. After rough drafting my ideas on Notes, I would then transfer the note by copying and pasting it into Google Docs where the real magic happens. I go into edit mode with correcting grammatical errors and rephrasing sentencing, making a clean and clearly readable text that shapes up the entire theme of the project to better fit the storyline. The app also hosts as a portfolio where most of my academic papers are available as well as a storybook for me as it holds much of my works as a writer.

Safari

Safari is the iPhone browser that is automatically enlisted. It is similar to any other browser, such as Google and Yahoo, however, slightly different. For Apple products it's known as the main source to get in contact with the internet with creative customization features, it's known battery saver, and privacy protector to make browsing more accessible and efficient. Academic wise, I would use it to check my student account or Blackboard where I may see visible assignments and check grades. I would also use it to monitor my school emails on Outlook and to make random searches, whereas for personal usage I would use it to do things like online shop, stream movies and tv shows, and more.

Final Thoughts

My daily average of screen time has been on a weekly downfall and it’s mostly because of this thing called ‘reality’. My life in the real world has been limiting my amount of time for personal media usage as my schedule is booked with school, work, and family life. My free time normally comes from holiday breaks or even weekends, but I still manage to sneak a day off from the chaos to simply relax and check out what’s happening in the media feed. Although my screen time varies, here’s my latest time check. This shows my screen average based on last week, which seems to have dropped since then.
